The best crypto to stake is usually a coin you already want to hold for years. Staking rewards are paid in that coin, so a great reward rate on a coin that falls in price can still lose you money. With that rule in mind, the four most popular choices in 2026 are Solana (SOL), Ethereum (ETH), Tron (TRX) and BNB. They differ a lot in reward range, unstaking time, minimums and risk.
This guide puts them side by side so you can choose. If you're new to the idea, start with what is crypto staking. All four can be staked from Virtex Wallet. This is general information, not financial advice.
SOL vs ETH vs TRX vs BNB at a glance
| Solana (SOL) | Ethereum (ETH) | Tron (TRX) | BNB | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Typical reward range* | ~5–8% | ~2–4% | ~3–5% (voting rewards) | ~1–3% |
| Unstaking wait | ~1 epoch (2–3 days) | Exit queue: hours to weeks | 14 days | 7 days |
| Minimum | Very low | Low via pools (32 ETH to solo stake) | 1 TRX | Low, set by protocol |
| Compounding | Automatic each epoch | Automatic | Manual (claim and re-vote) | Automatic |
| Slashing for delegators | Not a normal part of delegating today | Possible | No | Possible |
| Network fees | Tiny | Can be high for small amounts | Tiny (with resources) | Low |
| Extra perk | Fast, cheap transactions | Largest smart-contract ecosystem | Free Energy for USDT transfers | Low-cost BNB Chain activity |
*Rates are set by each network and change with total stake, fees, issuance and validator commission. These are rough recent ranges, not offers. Check the live rate in the app before staking.
Which crypto has the best staking rewards?
On headline rate alone, Solana has usually paid the most of the four, followed by Tron voting rewards, then Ethereum and BNB. But headline rate is the wrong way to choose:
- A higher rate often reflects higher inflation, meaning new coins are being issued to pay stakers. Your share of the network grows less than the number suggests.
- Rewards are paid in the coin. A 7% reward does nothing for you if the price falls 30%.
- Commission and fees reduce what you actually take home.

Is Solana good for staking?
Solana is a strong choice if you want fast access to your coins and automatic compounding. You delegate SOL to a validator through a stake account you control. Stake activates at the next epoch, rewards land every epoch (roughly every 2–3 days), and unstaking usually takes one epoch.
Best for: people who want higher rewards and short lock-ups, and who are comfortable with SOL's price swings.
Watch out for: validators with poor uptime and validators that raise their commission suddenly. Full guide: how to stake Solana.
Is staking Ethereum worth it?
Ethereum pays less than Solana, but it's the largest proof-of-stake network by value staked and has a long track record since moving to proof of stake in 2022. You don't need 32 ETH: pooled staking lets you stake smaller amounts.
Best for: long-term ETH holders who want their ETH to grow slowly and don't need it at short notice.
Watch out for: gas fees on small stakes (they can eat a year's rewards), and the exit queue, which can stretch withdrawals to weeks when many people leave at once. Guide: how to stake ETH without 32 ETH.
Should you stake TRX?
TRX staking pays twice. You earn voting rewards by voting for Super Representatives, and you get Energy or Bandwidth, which pays for transactions. If you send USDT on Tron, staking for Energy can make those transfers far cheaper.
Best for: anyone who holds or sends USDT TRC-20 regularly.
Watch out for: the 14-day unstaking period (the longest of the four), and the fact that rewards don't compound unless you claim and vote again. Guide: how to stake TRX.
Is BNB staking a good idea?
BNB staking is simple: delegate to a validator on BNB Smart Chain and rewards compound into your position automatically. Rewards come mostly from transaction fees, so they rise and fall with network activity.
Best for: BNB holders who use BNB Chain and want low-maintenance staking.
Watch out for: the lowest typical rate of the four, a 7-day unbonding period, and slashing if your validator misbehaves. Guide: how to stake BNB.
Best crypto to stake for beginners
If you're just starting, pick based on what you already hold and how soon you might need the money:
- Need access within days? SOL, with its roughly one-epoch unstake.
- Holding for years and want a big, established network? ETH.
- Send USDT on Tron? TRX, for the Energy alone.
- Already on BNB Chain? BNB.
Many people spread stake across two or three coins. That diversifies both price risk and network risk. Before choosing, read is crypto staking worth it? for an honest look at when staking pays off, and check unstaking times in our unstaking period guide.
What about staking Bitcoin or USDT?
Bitcoin uses proof of work, so BTC can't be natively staked. Products that advertise "BTC staking" are usually lending or wrapping it, with different risks.
USDT and USDC are tokens, not proof-of-stake coins, so they can't be staked either. You can earn on them through lending instead. See can you stake USDT?
How to stake any of these coins in Virtex Wallet
- Install Virtex Wallet from Google Play.
- Choose custodial or non-custodial mode. In non-custodial mode, back up your seed phrase. (Custodial mode isn't available in the EEA, the UK or the USA.)
- Add SOL, ETH, TRX or BNB to your wallet, keeping a little extra for fees.
- Open the coin and tap Stake.
- Pick a validator (or the recommended option), enter an amount and review the estimated rate, commission and unstaking time.
- Confirm and track rewards in the app.
Virtex Wallet also supports staking on other EVM proof-of-stake networks where available in the app. See them all on the crypto staking page.
Common questions
What is the best crypto to stake right now?
There's no single best coin. Solana has usually offered higher rewards with a short unstake, Ethereum is the largest and most established, Tron adds fee savings for USDT users, and BNB is low maintenance. Choose a coin you'd hold anyway.
Which staking coin has the shortest unstaking period?
Of these four, Solana, at about one epoch (2–3 days). BNB takes 7 days, Tron 14 days, and Ethereum depends on the exit queue.
Can I stake more than one coin?
Yes. Each coin is staked separately, and splitting your stake spreads price and validator risk.
Is a higher staking rate always better?
No. Higher rates often come with higher inflation, longer lock-ups or more risk. Compare the whole package, not just the number.
Are staking rewards guaranteed?
No. Rates are set by each network and change over time. The app shows an estimate before you confirm.
